The Department of Psychology consists of Clinical Neuropsychologists and Clinical Psychologists who see adults over the age of 16.

Clinical Neuropsychology

Clinical neuropsychologists conduct cognitive assessments of a range of neurological disorders including traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia and other progressive neurological disorders (e.g. Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis).

Dr Ilana Hepner (Head of Department) is a full member of the APS College of Clinical Neuropsychologists with expertise in the neuropsychological assessment of clients 18 years and older across a range of neurological, medical and psychiatric conditions (e.g., neurodegenerative disease / dementia, traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, brain tumour, ADHD, depression, schizophrenia, substance dependence). Her interests include acquired brain injury, neurodegenerative disease/dementia, decision-making capacity and cognitive rehabilitation. Dr Hepner routinely provides assessments of decision-making capacity and medico- legal reports for both civil and criminal matters.

Dr Jeanette Stewart is a member of the APS College of Clinical

Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology. She is the Head of the Psychology Department at the Clinic.

Her clinical interests include assessment of cognitive functioning in neurological/ neurosurgical patients, including those with head injury, dementia, stroke, infections, or other general medical conditions. In addition, she has an interest in the assessment of capacity (testamentary capacity, capacity for managing affairs, etc) and regularly provides medico-legal reports for civil and criminal matters. She specialises on working with adult patients over the age of 16.

Dr Molly Schafer is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a fellow of the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists. She has been working as a clinical neuropsychologist for over 14 years in the public and private sectors. Her private practice focuses on working with clients aged 16 and over who may be suffering from any of the following conditions: dementia, acquired brain injury due to cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, psychiatric illness, motor vehicle accidents, assaults, drug and alcohol abuse and developmental disorders such as

FASD, ADHD or learning disabilities. She regularly undertakes capacity assessments concerning personal decision making, financial management and testamentary concerns and medico-legal reports for criminal and civil matters.

Dr van den Berg received a doctorate in clinical neuropsychology from Macquarie University in 2010.  She is a fully registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with neuropsychological endorsement.  Dr van den Berg has over fifteen years’ experience conducting neuropsychological assessments in a variety of settings and with a range of conditions, including developmental disorders, neurological conditions, neurodegenerative disorders, acquired brain injury, intellectual impairment, substance abuse, psychiatric conditions and personality disorders.  She provides medicolegal reports, for both civil and criminal matters, including assessments of decision-making capacity (testamentary capacity, capacity to manage affairs etc).
